GLEN ELDER: 70 degrees, slightly murky, 8 feet low. Outlook: Corner Bait and Tackle reports: white bass fair on jigs, minnows drifting the creek channels; catfish fair on trotlines with live bait in Mill Creek.
Kanopolis
It’s been pretty slow this week, but what was caught was white bass below the outlet using minnows. Some catfish, white bass & channel cat using mostly jigs. Haven’t seen much walleye. The boat ramp use very limited still, some have tried wading out by the tower since the water is pretty low.
Wilson
Fishing has picked up this week. Catching walleye with green worms or green chartreuse lures, average has been about 17-21 inches at about 6-8 ft deep. Also caught some stripers surfacing on spin jigs. They have been running about 4-10 pounds. Heard a report of a few 22 pounders though.
Lovewell
Catching some catfish 18 inches or more using trut lines and shrimp or blood bait. Water is fairly low so it has been slow.
Norton
Very slow here, there is a few crappie but there small (about 7-9 inches) using green chartreuse jigs around the boathouse area.
Cedar Bluff
Mostly catching white bass about ½ - 2 ½ pounds on white flabs, there are a few wipers too. The Spillway Cove, Page Creek Cove, & Cove 1 has had the most luck so far.
Glen Elder
Mostly catching white bass off shore with artificial lures anywhere from hand size to 1 ½ lbs. from the rocky shoreline on the state park side to the marina.
Trout season starts Sunday. I'm trying Kanopolis and Scott SFL.
Kanoplolis trout stream
Fishing was tough for fly fisherman. Bait anglers were catching fish. Lots of duck weed in the stream and that made fishing tough in the pools at the upper end. It seems like the trout take time to become vunerable to flies after the first stocking. They wouldn't even look at my flies.
Kanopolis
Pretty slow this week. No reports available.
Wilson
Fishing has picked up some in the past week. Seen some catching stripers from7-12 pounds, walleye from 18-21 inches, & white perch that are pretty large. They are using slab spoons, green chartreuse lures to get them.
Lovewell
Since it was raining all weekend, not much fishing going on.
Cedar Bluff
Before the cold snap the best catches were white bass, wiper, & walleye.
Glen Elder
Not a lot going on at the lake lately but keeping an eye on the catfish, walleye, and white bass.

Rainbows at Kanopolis Seep Stream
Caught my 5th one on that tiny # 18 or 20 nymph about 1430 hrs after
arriving about 1000 hrs. Three on nightcrawlers & two on the nymph. Did
try # 12 Black Woolly Bugger... had several strikes on it but could not
connect. Ran into same problem w/ larger nymph, fish hit and let go.
Another gentleman was using cheese & getting strikes. Tried multiple items
today but the only things
they seemed to want were the nymphs, crawlers & cheese. 2nd gentleman
caught 3 before he left and another had 2 when I left about 1730 hrs.
Only thing constant in the whole deal was I did manage to catch my limit
each day but weather conditions and such influenced the activity of the
fish.
Oh well if it was all cut & dried then it would not be called FISHING

boat. Fish the sunny side of wind

Cedar Bluff
Bert’s Corner reports not a lot of fishing has been going on due to the cold weather and the wind. However, what have been caught were7-8 pound catfish using trot lines, white bass from 12-18 inches, and some walleye with a few keepers. Most have been using white slab “sparkle spoons”.

Wilson
Lake Wilson Marina reports that fishing has been decent with some keepers! What has been caught is walleye, stripers, & white bass using spoons.
Kanapolis
Fished on 10/28/06 due to report saying whites/wipers were stacked up near dam. Tried spoons and jigs. Caught 1 white bass. Seen shad surfacing with no fish under them.
•WILSON: Knothead’s reports: smallmouth bass fair on crawdad-colored crankbaits off points and in rocky areas; stripers fair on jigging spoons, jigs where fish are surfacing; white perch good on white twisters from the lower end to Lucas Point.
Wilson:
Learned some etiquette from wade fishers. Give them their space! In the clear water-fish spook easy so DO NOT come in with the big motor! These fellas work hard-so GIVE THEM SPACE! Talk to them in the parking lots. Most of them seem to being doing well on the white bass on kastmasters and doll flies of Minoka.
Cedar Bluff
Bert's Corner at Cedar Bluff reports large wipers on the north side of the cabins along with good sized white bass using slab with red sparkle spoons.
Wilson Lake
Knotheads Bait Shop reports at 30 foot of water you can catchsome stripers between 4-14 pounds, white perch about 1/2 to 1 1/2 pounds, and white bass from 2-3 pounds using spoons.
We fished at wilson last weekend and caught fish both days striper's eye's & perch, fish were tight to the breaks and on the deep edge.they also seemed to be on the move. we would find perch catch a bunch then they would disapear. Waleye's are tough to find but we caught some, slow down and fish a spot thoroughly. Stripers are active and there are lots of them, after we would catch a bunch we would move to get away from them. spoons and jigs are catching everything the fish don't seem to be to picky. Goodluck and Go to Cheney!
ATTENTION CERTAIN ANGLERS FISHING WEBSTER STILLING BASIN: By all means have fun and enjoy the outdoors, say hello to your buddies, ask how they and their families are doing, make new buddies, compare fishing success, and in general enjoy the comradery of relationships both old and newly established, but please PLEASE limit your conversations to a few words followed by LOTS AND LOTS--SAY, AT LEAST THREE HOURS WORTH?--of SILENCE! No one else wants to listen to your entire life's stories, hear what you did the night before, listen to how you limited out in just ten minutes the day before (and you didn't even use any bait!), etc.. As well--and this goes for everyone--in addition to packing out all of your trash when you leave, please take a few moments to pick up at least one item of trash of some idiot's who left before you. Thank you.
Does anybody have any reports for Sherman County State Fishing Lake in Goodland? Does anybody know if Rooks County State Fishing Lake is open yet? Just curious. Thanks.

Webster
Fished North Fish attractors with no success. One other gentleman was out and he didn't catch anything either. Neither one of us had to drill holes because there were already about ten open holes in the area. This tells me that fisherman probably weren't having a lot of success earlier in the day.
Is the Ice still good at wilson lake?
What are the ice conditions and fishing like west of the causeway at Glen Elder this weekend?
GLEN ELDER, clear, 12 feet low. Corner Bait and Tackle reports: Ice is 6 inches thick; stripers good on red jigs west of the causeway and at the Boller Point area through the ice.

February 7, 2007 - Answer to Ice fishing for walleye question -
I share your same concern. I've sent numerous emails to Kansas Wildlife and Parks and Nebraska Wildlife and Parks asking about good places to catch walleyes through the ice and they are just as curious as we are. The Nebraska folks said they just seem to go away in the winter. I personally believe the walleye are biting somewhere on something but haven't figured it out though. A friend of mine use to catch them on minnows at Cheney back when I was catching whites, wipers and stripers a 4 or 5 years ago on kastmasters and little cleos. I'm really concerned about the fisheries at Cheney because of the white perch. It's just weird on how we can have such great success and then nothing. It's not from a lack of trying. Since I live 20 minutes from the lake, I will venture out and I will cut 100 holes a day over a 2 mile stretch with nothing to show for it. I will fish 4 to 12 of water looking for them. Honestly, Cheney has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Last year I went to Glen Elder and caught crappie which was nice.
I just got back from Lake Oahe in South Dakota and had a good time catching walleyes through the ice. We caught our limit everyday (4 fish per person) of 18"-22" fish. I was catching them on rod and reels and tip ups. What seem to be hot was a little cleo tipped with a live minnow.
Unfortunately, our truck, 2 4-wheelers and all of our fishing gear was stolen in Council Bluffs Iowa on the way back so I haven't fished in Kansas yet. However, I just received my shipment from Cabelas. I will venture out this weekend. I typically don't use live bait but am considering it just because it does seem to pull walleyes through the ice. It's just something I personally haven't tried in Kansas.
Good luck fishing,
Postman
February 5, 2007 - Ice fishing for walleye question - This probably should be on the the commentary page, but I looked and it don't look like much is going on there. I would like to know if anyone can give out some info on how to catch walleye through the ice. I know some were caught a few years back at Cheney while fishing for stripers, probably more by accident as opposed to actually targeting them. The walleye is caught by ice fisherman consistently up north, so why can't that be done here, say like at El Dorado. If someone is doing it, how about sharing the info.

February 5, 2007 - Cheney question - Questions for ice fisherman. Is anyone seeing in the ice dead shad? Few of them? Lots of them? How big? Why I ask. Back in 2000, last time I went ice fishing. There were huge numbers of dead shad in the ice. I was told this was a good thing. Both for the shad and fish to feed on at the bottom of lake. Intern this is excellent food for the fish, (easy pickens). Like eating at Home Town Buffet, all you can eat. I remember that spring and into summer, (2000-2001). Was one of my very best years of fishing. Another comments would be apperceive.

March 5, 2007 - Farm Ponds - Took my dad and brother out fishing last wed. Whether was perfect, but I knew the water would be very chilly. Tried our farm pond we have fished for twenty years and couldn't get anything. I think the fish haven't recovered from the rainy chilly weahter we had. The pond was very muddy too. Even his small pond that has tons of small bass didn't produce a bite. We went to a bigger farm pond about 40 acres and tried it as well. It wasn't as murky, but couldn't find the fish. The carp were jumping all around though. Another fisherman was there and said it had nice sized fish in there, but he had nothing either and he scaled the whole lake with his chest waders. Going to try next week... might even take my boat out as well. Hopefully I will have a better report.

Caught Crappie with Jigs with tubes on them. Pretty big
Going to Wilson this weekend. Does anyone in that area have a lake update since all the rains over the weekend? Thought we would start off by fishing the flats for Walleye. Is anything else biting?
Caught some nice crappies @ Cedar Bluff. Looks like they are in full spawning mode. Most had eggs and a few were ready to release. Most were caught using minnows and some on jigs. GL
Fished Cedar Bluff the 16th and 17th. Only 13 crappie, but they were BIG. Took them anywhere from 5 to 20 feet of water. 38 white bass all in really nice shape too. Caught them trolling the tree rows. Lake is 67 degrees and low. Eric
Scott Lake
May 25(pm)/26(am)
Weather: 72 degrees, some sprinkles
My first trip to Scott Lake, so I was less effective than I should have been. Fished primarily in the creek above the lake from the low water crossing just past Elm Grove campground from the East bank.
Caught about 8 small bass (8-12") and two small crappie on 1/16 oz yellow jigs. Caught several nice bluegill on a white inline spinnerbait.
Just shy of dark I moved up to Elm Grove and did decently well on channel catfish. Caught 6 fish from 1# to 3# on liver in an hour.
Great experience, beautiful campsite... I'm looking forward to my next trip.
(Oh, but watch out for the poison ivy, it is absolutely choking the creek!!)
the solaman river near bennington in ottawa has cnannel cat bitting good in morning with worms..chad sides next to worms did nothing, not one bite all day.
Kanopolis Lake
June 29/30
Weather: Low 70's, overcast, drizzle
Fished in the lake in Horsethief State Park with no success whatsoever. Fished on the bottom with dough bait and liver with no bites. Also worked the flooded vegetation from the shoreline with every lure imaginable. Not even a bump.
Fished in the spillway below the dam from about 7 pm until 10 pm each night with great success. We caught a few walleye and white bass on 1/16 oz. jigs drifted with the current. We also caught 30-40 channel cats (most in the 1-2# range) on worms drifted on small snelled hooks with the current. No weight! Weights only caused us to hang up in the rip rap. Picked up the occasional walleye and white bass on worms as well.
went to cedar bluff 1 week ago.7+ catfish. None under 28 inches long. one 22 pound flathead.
Looking to go to Ottawa County SFL this weekend, any info on largemouth there?
Concannon State Fishing Lake
97 degrees, sunny, 5-10 mph SE winds
Water: Clear
Took my pup out to Concannon yesterday. More of a 'get out of the house' excursion than a true fishing trip. Algae is starting to take over the shallows but it's gives the little bass and bluegill great places to hide. Several kids seemed to be catching bluegill off the pier on worms. I worked the shallows with a flyrod and a Size 8 wooly bugger with great results. As you can imagine, there are no fish of any size in the lake, but I caught about 3 dozen bluegill and small (very small) bass in the course of about an hour.
July 23-25 Cedar Bluff
Wiper and white bass excellent from sun up to 1pm and again in the evening using TG Wally blades(shad, blue shad) in 28-31' Wipers averaged 5-6 pounds. What a great time!
Anybody know how the ice is out at Kanopolis? Anyone doing any good on Crappie, Whites, or Walleye out there?
How about the same question for Glen Elder?
cedar bluff
has anyone had any luck fishing off the dam for walleyes
Cedar Bluff
Went out two nights ago and had great luck on walleyes off the dam caught 4 keepers and 3 that were a little to small. After dark seems to be the best time. There spawning great now!
Cedar Bluff
21 crappie the other evening in the spillway cove 15- 20 feet deep
White bass/Wiper to 7pounds fair to good at times in 23-25' @ Cedar Bluff using large minnow and TG Wally blades

Water Temp vs Walleye Spawn: I'm wondering how much colder water temps have delayed Walleye / Sauger spawn. Does anyone know if this year will be delayed because of much lower temps on many reservoirs (temps never above 45 yet). Anyone have a feel for how Clinton was affected - Fishing Reports on Walleye please! Thanks!
Re: walleye reports and water temps. I was fishing the damn on Hillsdale lake in region 2. I would say the spawn was a couple weeks later then past years and was spread out for a longer period. By us it’s over now and the fish have moved on. I would guess that’s the case for most of the entire state. We’re going to let them settle and try again on flats and points in a couple weeks.
Most of the walleyes are completly done spawing about a week or two ago.
Does anyone know if the white bass have started their run yet, thinking about going to kanopolis in a couple weeks, thanks
Fished Wilson Sunday. Caught one walleye and one smallmouth. Mostly trolled it was too windy to do much else.
Kanopolis
I went out the river Saturday morning and it was really muddy and roaring pretty good from all the rain we've had. I threw a line for about 30-40 minutes, but no bites. I might try it again tonight if the weather permits.
Is anybody still catching white bass off the dam at Ceder Bluff?
caught a 5 lb bass and a couple others at Norton using a jig with a spinner, not a roadrunner but a black jig w/ a white plastic and a the spinners u can buy seperate and also lost a 5-6 lb fish with the same setup because he got wrapped around some logs and broke loose
