What lake were you on Craig?
Clinton
Good rod-n-reel fishing for channel cat from 5-10 pounds using fresh cut shad and sour carp. Best place is over by the state park boat ramp between 5-8 feet. There have also been a few crappie caught as well.
Hillsdale
Fishing has been slow since the lake has turned over. Some of the best catches are crappie’s which are running about 9 ½ inches long using minnows and walleye which are running about 27 inches long using Lindy rigs dragging bottom along the dam.
Milford
Good blue catfish anywhere from 4 to 40 pounds. Cat daddy says the lake record was broke about 2 months ago with a 50 pound catch! Been using goldeye cut bait with varying depth around the Wakefield area by red rock.
Tuttle Creek
Fresh cut shad back in the coves and there is some great channel catfish using fresh turkey blood and anything with a good smell. Catching fish anywhere between 2-10 pounds. The water level is fairly low right now and is about 68 degrees. There is lots of catfish along the shore and docks but they are smaller. There hasn’t been much crappie and walleye but they haven’t been big. One thing about this lake is that the fish are jumping everywhere!

They are up chasing shad in the mornings. Get up, quit wishin and go fishin. Good luck see yah out there on 11-22-06.
Perry Lake on Friday after Thanksgiving. Went to Slough Creek Bridge Area. Several boats out (5 to 8 any given time). Others caught a few crappie in the morning, said they were small. Most boats fishing around the bridge. Afternoon, 2 to 5 we caught 15-20 crappie and sunfish with small tubes, jigs with gold dust crappie nibbles about 2-3 foot under floats. Most fish 5-15 feet from shore on north side under the bridge. All small, only 2 were even 9 inches, which I'm guess is a year away from the legal limit of 10 inches.

February 7, 2007 - Answer to Ice fishing for walleye question -
I share your same concern. I've sent numerous emails to Kansas Wildlife and Parks and Nebraska Wildlife and Parks asking about good places to catch walleyes through the ice and they are just as curious as we are. The Nebraska folks said they just seem to go away in the winter. I personally believe the walleye are biting somewhere on something but haven't figured it out though. A friend of mine use to catch them on minnows at Cheney back when I was catching whites, wipers and stripers a 4 or 5 years ago on kastmasters and little cleos. I'm really concerned about the fisheries at Cheney because of the white perch. It's just weird on how we can have such great success and then nothing. It's not from a lack of trying. Since I live 20 minutes from the lake, I will venture out and I will cut 100 holes a day over a 2 mile stretch with nothing to show for it. I will fish 4 to 12 of water looking for them. Honestly, Cheney has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Last year I went to Glen Elder and caught crappie which was nice.
I just got back from Lake Oahe in South Dakota and had a good time catching walleyes through the ice. We caught our limit everyday (4 fish per person) of 18"-22" fish. I was catching them on rod and reels and tip ups. What seem to be hot was a little cleo tipped with a live minnow.
Unfortunately, our truck, 2 4-wheelers and all of our fishing gear was stolen in Council Bluffs Iowa on the way back so I haven't fished in Kansas yet. However, I just received my shipment from Cabelas. I will venture out this weekend. I typically don't use live bait but am considering it just because it does seem to pull walleyes through the ice. It's just something I personally haven't tried in Kansas.
Good luck fishing,
Postman
February 5, 2007 - Ice fishing for walleye question - This probably should be on the the commentary page, but I looked and it don't look like much is going on there. I would like to know if anyone can give out some info on how to catch walleye through the ice. I know some were caught a few years back at Cheney while fishing for stripers, probably more by accident as opposed to actually targeting them. The walleye is caught by ice fisherman consistently up north, so why can't that be done here, say like at El Dorado. If someone is doing it, how about sharing the info.

February 5, 2007 - Cheney question - Questions for ice fisherman. Is anyone seeing in the ice dead shad? Few of them? Lots of them? How big? Why I ask. Back in 2000, last time I went ice fishing. There were huge numbers of dead shad in the ice. I was told this was a good thing. Both for the shad and fish to feed on at the bottom of lake. Intern this is excellent food for the fish, (easy pickens). Like eating at Home Town Buffet, all you can eat. I remember that spring and into summer, (2000-2001). Was one of my very best years of fishing. Another comments would be apperceive.

I got out to the lake after two days of not fishing and when I opened my tackle hatch mice had gone through my Gulp bait, approx 11 bags and carried it to my rod lockers and battery compartment. I keep it in a water tight locking box now.

Tuttle Creek
Tuttle Creek State Park reports good trout fishing using mepps spinners; crappie using jigs are being caught at the tubes along with some channel cat using bobber and worms (cats are about 3 pounds).
I was on the Clinton dam sunday after lunch; wind was bvlowing in hard. First cast I caught a 3 pound ? white bass on a plastic minnow with spinner; then a few casts later caught the biggest Walleye I have ever caught in KS. ( I grew up outside mIldrod Lake ) This fish was atleast 30 inches long, huge belly probably full of eggs. Took me two hands to hold it up, and was so excited forgot to take a picture. I put her back in the lake, fished for another hour and not another bite.
Hillsdale
Tried Hillsdale again on Sunday afternoon 3/25/07. Slow-trolled live bait rigs along the dam and got one bite, but no fish. Wind made it hard to control the boat, so that may have been a factor in several bites going undetected. The walleyes are few and far between right now, but it will pickup when they finish spawning.
Hillsdale
Spoke with a biologist and he said Walleye #'s aren't on the dam yet spawning. Said he will be putting the nets out coming up this weekend.
Clinton Lake/Wakarusa River
March 28, 2007
70 degrees, 2pm-7:30 pm
White bass are starting to move up the river. We caught 10 nice fish out off the main river channel (30-40 feet from the bank) relatively deep on white and/or chartreuse jigs and spinnerbaits.
Also picked up a few 11-13" crappie and a random sampling of small black bass.
We also fished west of Shadden Road and the fish are NOT up that far yet.
Clinton Lake
Fished north end of dam on the evening of March 28th. Wind was out of the south/southwest. No luck on walleye but between 2 boats and 6 people we caught 75+ wipers and white bass! Numerous wipers over 18". It was crazy. Caught on white twister-tail jigs, plain or tipped with a minnow. Even caught a few wipers with a topwater Chug Bug.
Picked up a couple crappie but only one over 10".
Fishing activity seemed to quit after the wind died down and it got dark. Fished for walleye for awhile after dark along the dam but no luck.
Clinton

Hillsdale
Fished along the dam 3/30/07 with a jig/minnow. No walleyes, but nailed the crappies in about 19 feet of water all along the dam.
Had over 200 lm bass at Leavenworth SFL last week
Was that a misprint about Leavenworth SFL? Was it 200 or maybe 20. If it was 200, all I can say is WOW.
200 in 4 trips last week.
Wakarusa River is way, WAY up. Tons of debris, very muddy water, very frustrating. Guess it'll take a little time to clear up.
Hillsdale: Give it two more days, walleye are just starting on the dam with cranks. Please throw the shorts back as it looks to be turning into a good fishery.
April 9, 2007
Wakarusa River above Clinton
Partly cloudy, 48 degrees
Water is still high, but it seems like it's slowed down considerably. There is still a ton of debris in the water, but its fishable now. I picked up 15 whites and one nice crappie in about 3 hours.
Never really found a pattern. Picked up several fish tight to cover, several right along the bank and several out in the middle of nowhere. Some of them were really deep (15'?) and several were in less than 3'. Some wanted a really slow delivery and I caught 2 just burning it back in on what I thought were 'wasted' casts. Odd day, but not overly frustrating. Heckuva lot better than being at work.
Does anyone know how this cold snap has affected the walleye spawn at hillsdale? Will there still be any post-spawn action at the damn?
thanks
Wakarusa River (above Clinton)
52 degrees - sunny
Water: Muddy & up 6-8" from two days ago
The yo-yo season continues. Blue bird skies today and muddy water conditions seemed to really turn the fish off. 0 fish in 3 hours. Just weren't biting.
Maybe next weeks weather will fix things.

Caught 44 Crappie(Nice ones) at the Marina at Tuttle Creek lake 4/17. Water dropped one or two feet tried again on 4/20 with no results. This seams to happen every year, as soon as we start to catch them the Corp drops the water level and it's over. Walley and Saugeye at Rocky Ford. I would say fair to good.
What's up with the shortage of shad gut's? No bait shop in Manhattan has any. Lucky for me I just found a jar in my deep freeze and I will try Rocky Ford this morning. Will let you know how I did.Oh yea,My friend caught a 22" Walleye at RF on 4/20. I have also caught several nice Saugeye.
The shortage of bait, live or dead is partly due to a ban on export of fish from 8 states bordering the Great Lakes. Those states have a virus that has caused widespread fish kills. If you don't think the ban has an affect, check out the price of minnows. They are going to be three times last year's price if the ban continues.
Thank's for the info about bait.Fished RF 4/22 caught one nice channel cat and two nice saugeye between 20 and 22".
caught 30 channelcat at clinton anywhere from 1 to 5 pounds and 1 that weighed 15 she was full of eggs so we let her go went through alot of worms and shad in 2 to 3 foot of water
Leavenworth State Lake is excellent for bass. Go during the week as it is crowded on week ends.
Milford?

Wakarusa River above Clinton
Partly Sunny, 80 degrees
Water is up a foot or so from last week and moving fast. We caught about 10 keeper whites and another 10 smaller fish. Not as good as it was last week. Not sure if the run is over or if they just took a momentary break due to the high water.
Thanks Sean for all the good reports.
Sat. 5/5/07. 7:30am - Noon. Wakarusa River above Clinton. The crappie really slowed down. Only caught 7 keepers plus 3 whites. Crappie were back out in 6-10 feet of water, whereas they were on the bank a week ago.
5/5/07
Fished Perry around DJ for crappie. Really slow until around 8:30am. 8:30 to noon it was fair. We ended up with around 8 keepers out of 25 and saw others with 15 to 20 keepers in that same time period. They were under the docks and was not able to catch anything on the rocks.
Hillsdale -
Got my 7-year old out tonight in our canoe and dragged it down the bank on the North-East end of the dam and fished in 10' of water at that corner of the dam. He caught a 19" 2lb 7oz Walleye on a Nightcrawler (with Bobber). Great fun on a great evening!
Milford 5-11-07 Hit 17 Walleye last night 2 guys fishing 1 to 4 lbs. Kept 6 legal ones. And 2 Brown spotted bass 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. And 6 Catfish 2-lbs to 7 lbs.
hillsdale-Put the boat in at the wade boatramp in thr park, temp was 81+ degrees and experienced very slow crappie fishing. I met a good sameritan who gave me his extra minnows, told me the spawn was basicly over and directed me to some good walleye fishing on the flats of the north side of the wade branch. Still bent on finding crappie, I sped to the north side of little bull (tuggle branch) and found the tempuratures in the 77 degree range. Took home 9 keepers, only one with eggs. Let me know how you all have done and where. thanks
planning a weekend 5-18-07 trip to Milford. Anybody doing any good there?
No more reports from me for the summer. I'm headed to Garden City until August.
Good luck and good fishing boys and girls.
Bass fishing at Leavenworth is excellent for numbers. However, they are not very big. catching 100 is easy most days.
Bass & Crappie
fishing at Levenworth County lake slow and lots of moss around bank comming to surface now that the water has heated up. makes it difficult to fish , except in deeper water lake is up about 16" some catfish at feeders need boat..
Toronto- We have been fishing for catfish the last few outings. We have caught small yellows and some nice channel below the dam. Today was real SLOW, we kept to small channel for supper. By the end of the week we might try crappie again.
First off I like the idea of public forum on this website and hope that more people will use it. Did some trot lines over the weekend with a redneck buddy of mine, pretty good time and caught about 10 cats, one smaller flathead and the rest channels. Also caught about 4 turtles on the line closest to the bank. Lookingto do some walleye fishing this Sat, reports look good. Anyone out there having any luck?
anyone been to lonestar lake lately? I was planning on going down there to do some bass fishing, but I didn't know if I should go there or up to leavenworth county lake.
Milford
Been fishing Milford for two weeks so far this year. Last week when the wind was out of the north the wipers were hitting big off the damn. Last few nights with the wind down the fish are on the points and back up low in the coves under cover.
Does anyone have any info on how the fishing is at Pony Creek Lake north of Sabetha. I'm specifically interested in the Bass fishing.
fished hilsdale sat we didnot catch any keepers there were alot of boats fishing the flats we tried no luck has anyone done any good
fished hillsdale, 6/9. From 7am to 3pm, worked every point (trees and land). Minnow tipped jigs, bouncing minnows down the points, jigs. Only caught 2 little crappie's and a tiny channel. Only bites we had. I would guess 100 to 200 ski boats hit the lake by 11am. Just ridiculous to try and fish with all the water being tossed around. grrrrr
yea the boats out there will be crazy with that new marina, it'll take a couple of accidents for the state of KS to come down on the jet ski's and what not. Lake is not big enough for that traffic
WIPERS BITTING GREAT AT CLINTON ON SHAD LIKE JIGS
Where at on Clinton? I was out there a couple of weeks ago and didn't even see one fish caught in 4 hours with 10+ boats around.
I have been night fishing the last 2 weekends at Milford and picking up lots of nice wipers and whites. Know how to identify wipers or you will end up with a boat full of 2 pound wipers.
hillsdale 9/16, Fished under lights from 9pm to 4am. Caught around 30 crappie. Not one over 10", got frustrated and left. All of them 9 & 1/2 to 9 & 3/4. It's been like this for 3 years. 99% of crappies have been just under 10". Kept thinking every year they would be 10" by now, but yet all are still under. Maybe a 9" min. would be great?
I prefer the 4 inch crappie limit so I can keep everything I catch. There is so much meat on a 4 to 9 inch crappie that it is terrible to let it swim another day.
The creel limits are in place for one reason and one reason only, to insure a sustainable fishery for the future. If the 10 inch limit on crappie was hurting the fishery in any way, the biologist would reduce the length limit. "Real Fisherman" know the importantance of these restrictions and should not only fish for "meat", but the pure satifaction of the sport.
reply 9/16, I understand the importance, and the sport of fishing. I would say the term of sport fishing is more related to bass fishing. Crappie, Walleye, Catfish are fished for the table. After years of hardly catching any over 10". I feel satisfied that I do catch alot of them, but when my plate is empty. Satifaction doesn't make me feel like I'm eating them. :) My question to a biologist is how long did it take you guys to find crappie's over 10" to put all those tags on last year? Also where did you shock them at? :)
I just got done cleaning a limit of crappie from Hillsdale. Biggest fish was 15". Try fishing with shad out in front of the new marina dock. Fish are following the shad in the cove between beach break wall and dock at 18'-25'.
Two Comments. !st This blog would be better if was divided into lakes. i.e. Milford, Perry, ect.
Second Since I fishing Milford (having just moved into the Area) Are there ANY Blackbass in Milford?
Any good ideas on how to catch small mouth? I need to learn how but do not know how are where to start.
9/16-Apparently you do not have a complete knowledge of the sport of fishing. If you did, you would be able to find 10+ inch crappie at hillsdale. I have little trouble myself.
9/16- My pic is posted on KDWP with the flathead just shy of 70lbs I caught last year. Maybe your right, 10" is just too big of fish for me to find. :)
Crappie limits are almost always social rather than biologically required. That is to say the 20 fish limit imposed on some lakes was implemented to appease some people who complained about the 50 fish limit. It does spread out the harvest, but is NOT required to maintain the fishery. I believe the 10 inch length limit works to increase overall crappie size in a few lakes but not in most. I assure you the crappie fishery at hillsdale wouldn't collapse if it was removed. Do not take my word for it, call your biologist and ask him. I would suggest this anyway to let him know what you think about the limits (for or against). That is the only way for them to know what their fishermen want.
Fished Clinton in the wind and rain 6/29 during the late night hours. The walleye and white bass bite was hot on the flats with jigs. The wind was out of the east, so I stayed to the west side of the lake and drifted with the wind. The windier and rainier it got, the better the fishing was. I had the entire lake to myself and enjoyed good fishing from about 11pm-2am.
Are Kansas anglers a fairweather group? I grew up in the Northcountry, and when the weather got nasty EVERYONE hit the lake. Don't folks know that when the wind is howling and rain is pouring, the walleyes are ON?
anything biting at Milford???
Don't any of you guys fish Pony Creek?
Where is Pony Creek?
Pony Creek is full again and fishing good. Spinners and Creatures working well.
Pony Creek is north of Sabetha Kansas about 4 or 5 miles.
The Milford wiper report mention large live bait being used. Would that be large shad? I saw a boat using what I thought to be 4-5 " bait of some kind. When,Where, and how to you net these?
Where is the best place in Northeast to catch big bass? I have found several areas with good numbers of fish in the 15-18 inch range, but I was wondering where I should go to look for bigger fish.
milford- ive had no luck with big fish in milford but i have caught lots of fish in the 1 to 8# range. cats and black bass. im gonna try the spillway tonight with stink bait, crawlers, minnows and jigs i will let yall know how it turns out.
milford spillway was ok the army corps of engineers is not letting enough water out so the fishing is slow. drum, crappie and small wipers were caught on small jigs. a couple cats on crawlers and a few small walleye on minnows.
Caught a Wiper 7 lb 2 oz at Rocky Ford. Also caught one about 4 lbs the day before. Thanks to Fish and Game for stocking them in Milford. What do you guy's think about stocking them in Tuttle Creek?
It would be nice if we could post pictures!
The Crappie thread has been interesting to read. I personally think the 10 in Limit is great. I can't see how the first blogger can eat a 4 inch crappie or even think there is a lot of meat on one. I have thrown a lot of 10 inch crappie back at Hillsdale because they tend to be rather skinny.
Also agree with the one comment about the blog being broken down by lake. That would be very helpful. KDWP IT Staff do you read this?
Yes, we do read it. The blog is maintained by our IT staff. I will check to see if there is some way to have a lake by lake blog created.

Doug,
While your at it see if you can figure out a way for us to post pictures. Or, Is there a Kansas site where we can do this?
www.anglerworld.com is a place for people to go and enter fishing reports and photos. under bass fishing reports click on KS then enter what ever lake you fished.
To the blogger who wanted to post pictures on the blog. Here's IT's response.
Doug, At this time I don't see away on blogger for comment to have an image. You might put on there that if they go to the address http://kdwp.state.ks.us/news/kdwp_info/ks_outdoors_photographs . They can get information on sending us the photo and we posting it on our webpage.
So, you can submit picture to the link above and then paste the link into the blog comment box for those that may wish to view the picture. Sometimes it may take a while for the picture to be reviewed prior to posting on the official KDWP web site, so be patient.

Going to Milford for 1st time on thursday morning, any tips for 1st timers their??? Anything biting now their???
How was the 1st time to Milford?
Catfish are good in 26-40' water using fresh shad close to the bottom.
Drifting on wind blown flats in 15'- 20' can be good during mid day using shad or shrimp.
Wiper action can be good anywhere on the lower end, 20'- 40' deep using live shad.Try north and south humps early.
1st time at Milford fished mainly Farnam flats with slabs, some white bass. Good on white bass around points at Flagstop, gulls were hitting around the boat dock at city park and Flagstop. Next time will use shad.
Where is Flagstop on the lake?
Flagstop is the campground at Milford.
caught over 50 channels from 2 1/2#'s-10#'s between 3 anglers on 2 nights last week at milford. sunsets, and they go nuts in 2'-5' of water. any cove, useing cut shad.these were caught on 8-25-07, and 8-30-07. P.S. we also caught an 8# wiper in 3' of water in the dark!
how is perry for black bass fishing?
What is the deal, is this a dead site? Just how is the bass fishing at Perry Lake?
I've been following the water temps. Be watching and give it about another week. Turnover is almost upon us...the fishing should be hot with just one or two more cold fronts.
how's fishing at Milford????
Had trouble finding crappie at hillsdale but found schools of white bass on the point southwest of the dam. Caught 10 wind drifting drop shot minnow rigs in a short amount of time. But where are the crappie?
Does anybody know if they've stocked trout at Tuttle yet? The stocking report shows they should be stocking between oct 1-14, but I haven't heard or seen anybody fishing for them yet.
I e-mailed the Tuttle Creek project office earlier this week and they said Willow Lake would be stocked before Oct 15 opener. I may take the day off and go out there Monday myself. I like the odds......
HAS ANYBODY BEEN CATCHING CRAPPIE AT CLINTON
Does anybody know when they are going to stock trout at shawnee mission park lake and heritage park.
LOOKS LIKE EVERYBODY IN THIS AREA QUIT FISHING
Both were stocked on October 24 with the lakes reopening for fishing on the 27th.
Does anyone know if they are going to stock crappie in douglas state lake south of Lawrence? It has been closed and will be till 2009 for redevelopment and they have stocked, bass crappie, and cats, but no crappie as of yet? Just curious as to when that would happen?
has anyone been fishing at hilsdale lake lateley and if so what has the action been
Hey I am Josh Bender from Colorado and won the Junior Bassmaster Stae Championship, going to the World Championship for the Junior Bassmasters which has been moved to Milford Lake, near Junction City, Kansas in November 2008. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the reports are for large and smallmouth bass during november and any pointers on what to use during November. Thanxs, please e-mail any info. you can lend me, i aprreciate it. My e-mail is FlyFisher120@aol.com
thanks Josh Bender
1-13-08 today I was at the lake and notice that they have put rocks in front of the points to block people from backing their vehicle on. Installing the restroom great news for campers. But also in the process of doing this now the road are not passable because of mud Thesse areas were bad before but now even worse the gravel road that surrounds the boat ramp area in the area of the lake directly to the east is so muddy you can't hardly get through. The trees that overhang each side of the road going to the boat ramp when you first enter the road also causes scratches on your vehicle and boats WWhy can't they be trimed back I know it's a country road that you would thank that the Parks and Recreation will would maintain it better than it has been for the last five years or have the county do it a little gravel would be terrific not least that way I feel like my tax dollars and fishing license fees are being spent are put to good use if you are not responsible for these areas it would be nice to know who is so somebody could e-mail our contact them thank you
which lake?
da I forgot Leavenworth County Lake
I was at leavenworth state lake today 1/27/08 and was glad to see the roads being cleared of trees. Maybe someone read the comment made earlier about the overhanging trees scratching the vehicles. I hope the roads get some gravel this spring as it was extremly muddy and could not be acessed from the south entrance. Nice work so far. Thank You
Drove by Middle Creek 2-9-08. NO ICE!! Didn't launch as dark was approaching. I'm ready to go.
Looking for crappie advice. I'm interested in being able to catch crappie in early spring (or now) when it is still cold and I know guys catch them year round. Would anyone like to share general advice on finding and catching them. I'm looking to fish a lake that's about 25 acres and max depth somewhere around 20ft, lots of nearshore veg, I'd be fishing it from a canoe. I've always had luck fishing during the spawn, but these warm days are giving me the itch. Usually when I go out early I just fail miserably and get frustrated, but maybe with some help I could get into them early. Thanks!
What is the best rig to use in the spillway of Clinton Reservoir. I keep getting caught in the rocks. Anyone have any ideas or experience that would be handy?
2/19/08 im looking for someone who would like to go fishing @ hillsdale or pomona lakes this spring i live in the lane area. thanks Gary.
Gary,
I fish Hillsdale and would like to try Wolf Creek. I'll fish with you. You can email me at: doran50014@yahoo.com

NATHAN, USE A 1/4 OZ JIG WITH A BOBBER PREFFERABLY A THIN BOBBER SO IT WON'T GET WASHED AWAY SO QUICKLY BY THE WATER FLOW. YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO TRY TYING YOUR JIG 18 IN ABOVE YOUR WEIGHT, ONE USED FOR TROLLING WALLEY SO IT WILL DRAG ACROSS THE ROCKS.
Fished below Clinton dam on the Wakarusa from 8:45-10:00pm. Using small rapalas, hooked and lost three walleye as they came to shore--all were in the 3-4 lb. range.
Are they still letting alot of water out of the spillway?
How far down form the spillway were you?
As of tonight, they're letting out 1000 cfs, which is a high flow. We fished on the riprap about 30-50 yards down from the spillway walls. The walleye are everywhere in there, though. They move up and downstream throughout the day and night.
Fished below Hillsdale tonight using 2 3/4" rapalas. Didn't have any strikes or see any walleyes. One other angler said he caught a small crappie in the spillway. After 10:00pm, we fished the riprap on the face of the dam, wading and casting rapalas. Again, we had no strikes and didn't see anything. There is still some patchy ice along the shoreline. There was a pretty large-scale shad kill, so the cats may be up feeding on them. We didn't try fishing them with setlines, though.
Be Carefull at leavenworth county lake as I got stuck in the mud putting my boat had to be towed out there is no gravel there on the roads no more
Fished a small Leavenworth County farm pond 3/2/08 in the heat of the day. Pond was 70% open with 30% ice. Caught four largemouth bass in the span of 1 1/2 hrs. Three fish were fairly small, but one was 15". I was using 1/64 oz. jigs with a tiny 1" white twister tail. The fish are willing to bite, but using super-small lures is the key.
I look for the walleyes to be spawning next time we have three or four days of consistent warmth.
IS THERE ANY SPECIAL FEES OR REG, FOR FISHING FOR OUT OF COUNTY RESIDENTS AT LONE STAR LAKE
No special regulations or fees, but it should be noted that there is no fishing allowed over by the swimming area (even when its cold).
I am looking to come up to milford this weekend. Any info on milford would be helpful as i have never been there. I have heard that it has a lot of hybrids? Can any body help with a bait choice i heard that there was a lakewide shad kill with the freeze so i am afraid netting shad might be a slow adventure. Any thng you milford fishermen know that i should. Thanks Wade
is there one place better than the other that is best to launch? Any underwater hazards to avoid? Any areas i should be sure to hit?
Thanks
Leavenworth state lake needs more road work. Please add more gravel !!
Milford is at 33 degrees, the shad kill off is lake wide dead shad floating everywhere. no need to fish while the bait is just laying around waiting to be eaten. Everything was slow on the main lake even the crappie didnt want to bite. We will be back. Still looking for any help on fishing milford. Maybe none of you can figure that lake out either.
Wade: There are 2 underwater islands at Milford you will want to check out. They are marked with a buoy. Once fishing season gets going, they will be easy to find with a congregation of boats. You can catch wipers, whites, cats, and walleye at the islands. There is good fishing all over the lake. Look for drop offs adjacent to a flat. Great lake to get to know.
Doe's anyone know the length limit at Milford spillway? Over the years of fishing Walleye I have been told 15in and 18in, by several different officials. I have also been told that if you hook paddlefish inside the mouth that they can be kept. If anyone has any information on these subjects could you please share.
Thanks for the info on Milford I will put it to good use our next time up.
I wondered the same thing about the walleye length limit at the Milford spillway, so I emailed KDWP about three years ago. I received a reply and they said that it was 18" in the spillway down to the Highway 77 bridge. I don't know about the issue you mentioned about the paddlefish. Hope this helps.

I heard that they shut the spillway down and are going to damn the wakurausa up behind Clinton Lake. Why are they doing that and can you still fish back there? I know that ther are aloy of really good holes to fish below the spillway. How far back are they going to place the damn and for how long is it going to be up?
yep-- clinton outlet closed off. every single year when fishing is at it's best, the coor of engineers find some excuse to shut the outlet down to fishing.allways an excuse like trash, snagging, or some other reason. so tired of it!!!
The Corps temporarily closed the outlet while they do inspections/repairs on the spillway. It is scheduled to reopen on Tues 4/2/08 I believe.
can avyone give me a fishing report from hillsdale? i was just wondering if anything is happening at the present time. are the walleye on yet?, or the crappie?
The spillway at Clinton is back open. Fished for about an hour this morning in the off and on rain. Caught 2 16in. walleye. Bet it gets better after couple days of warmer days. Dont go after the eyes much. Is the dam or outlet area better to try? Thanks for any info.
The Walleye have been going at Hillsdale for at least 10 days now with lots of nice fish being caught on rapalas and jigs off of the dam.
Fished a small farmpond with my wife and daughter on Friday. A lovely day and we were able to keep 9 nice crappie. Also caught a few small bass and some smaller crappie. Using jigs and working them slow.
For those visiting Milford, and have GPS, the location of one of the islands is about N39.11612 W96.91613. The bouy was out on 4-5-08, although the wind had moved it quite a ways from the top of the island. Didn't find the other one, but was tired of being bounced around. Maybe this blog can start a Fishing Hotspots for Milford like some of the other lakes have. Cheers, and don't catch 'em all!
hillsdale-crappies are getting hot in the evening hours. been catching near limit almost every trip using minnows/shinners
anyone know how the walleye and wiper fishing is doing in the spillway at milford?? It's about a 2.5 hour drive so i was wondering how it was doing before the drive. Also when the fishing report refers to the outlet, are they talking about the spillway? They mention both so I was wondering. Any help would be appreciated and good luck this year
Group of kansas anglkers starting a local chapter of North American Fishing Club. You can join us at
fishingclub.com get your trial membership and sign on to community forums and say hello at the kansas site. We will be having a meet in late may at sedgwick co private bass and crappie lake. Don;t miss out. Lots of good people
I have a fishing license and a parking permit. I need to know if I can fish Scott Creek from the camping area without paying the camping fee? I used to fish this area when Hillsdale first opened. Now its all camp ground. Can I fish my best spot for Crappie?
Harold (GF)
What are the crappies doing at perry? Are the walleyes and saugeyes done spawning in outlet? I have been out one time to perry, and failed miserably!!! I am anticipating the warm weather this upcoming week! Anybody have any news about clinton as well?
I was out at Lake Shawnee the on the 5th. Didn't catch anything but some kid said that he caught 5 rainbow trout on small spinners up in the back of the creek channels. Has anyone been fishing the Wakarusa river? My cousin and I are heading out there Wednesday and I was curious if anyone knew how the white bass are doing so far or if they have even started their spawn run.
Can anyone help me figure out the bass fishing on Hillsdale. I have been out six times this year and have not been able to find anything. A couple of years a go I would just go to MO for my bass fix, the price of gas is to high to do that now. Thanks
Agreed a update on the Wakarusa would be nice.
Fished the Wakarusa just above Clinton. Caught channel cat (1), white bass (1), large mouth (3 one weighing 6lbs)and a freaking ton of carp all with worms on bottom. Couldn't get nothing to hit on minnows.
Can anyone tell me where to get minnow around Clinton Lake? The marina said they don't have any yet and the other bait shops that I knew about are all closed now. Thanks,
The gas station on Clinton Prkwy and Wakarusa has minnows. ALso if your going to be fishing west side of Clinton or on the upper Wakarusa the little town of Clinton has a bait shop that will be open the last of April when they get back from wintering in TX.
Thanks for the info. Fished the upper Wakarusa yesterday afternoon. Pretty slow. The water is pretty dingy still. Only managed to catch two crappie, but they were nice sized, 12" and 13.5". Not a single white bass. I thought the whites might be up there by now. Maybe another week or two.
Yea I stoped by the Wakarusa around Green RD and fished for an hour. I was only able to get one crappie and one white bass. Both were nothing to talk about. Maby with all this warm rain we can see some more action this weekend "19th".
THE MARINA WILL HAVE MINNOWS FRIDAY THE 18TH. ALSO, OLD JUDY'S JUNCTION HAS THEM RIGHT NOW. IT'S GOOD TO SEE BOTH PLACES OPENED AGAIN. THE MARINA'S INSIDE REMODEL IS AWESOME CHECK IT OUT. I DON'T KNOW THE PRICES NOW FOR MINNOWS AT THE MARINA BUT AT OLD JUDY'S JUNCTION BOTH MINNOWS AND WORMS ARE $3 A DOZEN.
fished the wakarusa west of Shadden road on the morning of the 16th,caught 4 white bass in 2 hrs. not very productive.
