Has anyone caught any walleyes from the dam at night in any of the NE kansas lakes yet ?

I have not had any luck thus far with Walleye in Tuttle Creek, but I have not tried at night. Most of my luck has been targeting crappie, with the occasional white bass ending up on my line. The crappie spawn has been fantastic this year, I have had a ton of 11-12 inch crappie. Good luck to all fishermen!

Are you catching crappie shallow at Tuttle creek? It it understandable with the nice weather weve had..what water temps have you seen? I did pick up 2 walleye tuesday evening after I asked the question about walleye being caught so bottom line is that its on...good luck...

Are you catching Crappie from shore or from a boat?

I'm catching them in 6-10 foot deep areas by brush and rock from the shore. I have not been monitoring water temp, but I can personally tell you it's still pretty chilly as slipped and got to go swimming.

Water temp is 48

I'm looking to catch the crappie spawn for the first time. Any advice for a newbie in the johnson county area? (new to crappie, usualy a chanel cat man)

What do you need help with? Where to go? I have no Idea I live in Manhattan. I can tell you this much. Watch others ask around people will tell you where to go.I like to use minnows . I like them and so do crappie. Wait till the water temp gets close to 60.Fish rocky banks on the west side of the lake first.Move around if you dont find them.Look for structure christmass trees standing timber etc.Hope this helps some. Maybe someone from your area will take you and show you how. If not you can come here and I will show you how we catch them here..

Crappie response johnson county...head for the first part of the coves where the channel comes into the cove and comes close to the bank...start there using jigs (tube jigs or crappie assassin like jigs..) either long pole or bobber...weather permitting if we continue on this warm spell you can start catching them shallow right away...if not then 1st week of april usually it starts off good. cold front kills the fishing. warm front fires them up (hint).then after coves stop producing head for the rocks. Same approach use jigs period...1/16 or 1/32 ounce black with green jig or white or pink or whatever color seems to work for you..your in the best crappie country available...clinton, hillsdale, melvern all are excellent...fishing the rocks can be done from shore but cove fishing is best from boat as its tough to reach many good spots from the shore..good luck..

Anybody heard or seen any thing going on with the white bass spawn? Just curious as to if the are starting to school up or if they have maybe started making their runs up the tributaries. I appreciate it.

Walleye fishing has been very tough so far at hillsdale...every night 30 or 40 vehicles and I have yet to see anybody carry out a fish yet..I have caught 5 total in 5 trips..all less than 19 inches. fish are moving shallow but they are not angry yet..

Wait another 3 weeks on those white bass. April 5-7th at the earliest. But if I was gonna try earlier I'd hit John Redmond stilling basin first.

Had a monster day at Mall Creek on the northern end of Milford yesterday. We caught a variety of fish, Flathead, Channel, Large Mouth, Carp, and even a Wiper. They are loving shad sides and worms right now. Using BANG Crawfish spray. The biggest of the bunch was a 34 pound flathead.

The whites are up in the river at perry

Yep... Hillsdale walleye are tough this year again. Seams to me every spring there are more guys out fishing and less fish on the dam. I've been lucky enough to get a couple but the lost lure vs caught fish ratio hardly make it worth it.

how about opening the cleaning station at clinton lake. not too pleasant hauling fish home to clean. what's the hold-up coor????

Anonymous said...

have the white move to the river at milford?

Anonymous said...

The green water at Milford is doing something to the crappie. We sure caught a bunch but they were black looking so we let them go. To bad because we sure had a bunch. Any idea what's causing this?

Anonymous said...

The male crappie are usually a lot darker than the females during spawning.

Has anyone been catching very many crappie at Milford or Tuttle?

Anonymous said...

yes over the weekend i usually a catch bucket full of crappie at milford cove.

Anonymous said...

I've never been out to Milford, But I plan on taking a trip here pretty soon. Which spots are best for all of the various fish? Also, bait shops around the vicinity?

Has anyone had any luck with spawning crappie at the oldtown/92 area of lake Perry?

Does anyone know anything about mud creek, or any deep holes on the kaw below the bowersock dam

Anonymous said...

It's a good place to try in early March for channel cat when they are looking for warmer water. Sometimes white bass will show up. There are times during the season when the Kaw is high that a few 50-60 pound blue and flathead move in too. Limbs lines will work. There aren't really any deep holes below Bowersock for at least 2 miles downstream. There is a ledge under the dam that goes back a couple feet? but it isn't deeper than the rest. I would call them depressions instead of holes in the rest of the river. An example would be a water depth of 7 feet throughout most of the river and then you'll find where a spot drops down to 11 ft. for about 20 yards or so and then tapers back up. But when the fish are on the feed or a spawning run, 2 ft. depth could be where to fish some days/nights.

Hillsdale 4/21: Crappie were biting on minnows over brush pile 10' deep. Minnows under floats 4'. White bass near dam on trolling plugs. Crappies still full of eggs.

Bass fishing at Perry Lake is on fire right now! 5 best fish I caught the other day weighed in at 29 lbs on the scales. One of them being a 7 pound largemouth and another a 4 pound smallie.

Any word on the walleye bite at Millford. Will be camping there in a couple weeks and was hoping to get a somewaht current report.

Did a short trip to the south outlet park @ Milford last night. Wasn't too bad, caught a few wipers and channel cats with largest being a 7 pound channel. Used worms and shrimp, though worms tended to produce best results.

White bass are schooling up finally at Hillsdale..all you need is a silver rattle trap..go get em!! Ocassional walleye shows up as well..if enough people keep the white bass then this will help control their out of control population growth...maybe..good luck!!

Anonymous said...

The fish are just generally up at Milford. Walleye in main lake, bass on shore, bluegill in coves, catfish in north end. Good week for the family fishing.

Any had any luck with catfish at banner lake in holton? If so on what and where at?

Any idea why no reports for Banner, Atchison and Brown since late Apr??
